[Jonathan raises his brows in clear amusement at that first comment.]
I was a military doctor for three years before arriving here, Mr. Stark. Knowledge of the human anatomy lends itself as well to killing a man as saving him.
[There's a musty scent to the solution and if Tony got up close and personal with any of the mushrooms from the caverns, that's what these seem to smell like.]
In any case, thank you very much for your assistance. Perhaps you'd like to take something from my armory in trade? Do be careful not to cut yourself, though. This is a paralytic coating.
That's hardly a favor, Mr. Stark. Haven's laboratory space is open to anyone in the LIEs program. If you mean something more exclusive, such as taking over one of the side rooms, I can see that arranged and a lock provided.
Would it be in my interest to ask what you might be working on whilst the walls have ears?
[Or the tablets can reach through them, potentially.]
Really? Cool, thanks. A lock is infinitely preferable.
[ Besides the threat of theft, the risk of contamination is too high for him to chance. Tony drums his fingers briefly on the tabletop, recalling their prior conversation. ]
...I mean no offense when I ask this, but how much do you know about gene therapy?
I take no offense to the question. [There's mild amusement in Jonathan's tone once more.] I'm from 1918, Mr. Stark. I might be worried about your judgment if you thought me an expert in it.
I've seen some references to it in the medical textbooks I've looked through since my arrival here, but it's nothing I'm personally familiar with. It's meant to cure some genetic disorders, yes?
[ Still crazy to consider, even with the benefit of knowing several others who are as equally out of their own times. His knowledge of medicine in the nineteen-teens is spotty, so they're even. ]
Yes, exactly. My work will be... [ making a brief square with his hands, then fluttering them apart to scratch his chin, ] Roughly in that ballpark. Need to fix my ticker and I can't do it without an added boost.
[That last comment garners more interest and it's only a moment before Jonathan shifts his vision to shades to look at Tony's veins and heart. There's no outward sign of this apart from Tony suddenly having the doctor's more focused attention on his chest region.]
What is it that's wrong with your heart, Mr. Stark?
[ Like the rt unit sitting clean through his sternum, right where the explosive caught him dead center in the chest. Tony doesn't hear the hum of the electromagnet, but Jonathan might, even as its glow is hidden by his shirt and coat. ]
I had this all figured out and ready to go before I was dragged here, now I'm just playing catch up.
[Complicated beyond anything Jonathan has personally seen, certainly.]
I would be happy to offer what assistance I can around my other work, if you require it. And you're free to use any of the equipment we have at Haven for your needs.
I'm grateful for everything you've offered thus far, Doc, I'll definitely let you know if I need an assist. Do you happen to have the equipment inventoried?
[ ...and if not, would he like to, is the silent question that follows. He can't get started without knowing exactly what's available to him, of course. ]
Only by cabinet, not as a whole. There's a list on the outside of each storage cabinet that indicates what's inside. It should help in returning anything you're not using. But I'm certain the other researchers here would appreciate a full inventory. I think it might help us determining what we might need to acquire next, as well.

[ He does glance over the assortment, considering the man's offer, and leans a hip lightly against the table to watch him work. ]
I gotta say it's tempting, but not really my style. Could use a favor instead.
[ Not waiting for a yea or nay, he plunges ahead, ]
I need to borrow lab space if you can spare it, just for a little while. Maybe a couple weeks, at most.
